National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia

The Goals

The National Bonsai and Penjing Collection of Australia
displays, for public enjoyment and education,
a collection of high-quality bonsai and penjing
 representing the diversity of styles
amongst Australian artists.

  • The collection will consist of both Australian-native and exotic species.  Until such time as finances allow, it will focus primarily on species that are frost tolerant, although those requiring only light protection can also be included.

  • The NBPCA will be at the forefront of displaying the art and craft of bonsai.  It will also provide the opportunity to build linkages between viewing full-size trees in the Arboretum and their miniature equivalents in the NBPCA.  There are significant opportunities for the NBPCA to provide cultural links between Australia and a range of embassies, especially those with strong historical links to the art of bonsai and penjing.  Linkages between the NBPCA and appropriate businesses will also be welcomed.

  • The NBPCA will maintain a documentary record of information made available to it about Australian bonsai artists, significant individual bonsai, bonsai collections, bonsai pots and bonsai stands in Australia. The goals of the NBPCA will include the capacity to acquire photographic images (in any medium) of bonsai and any other related objects.

  • The NBPCA will also display, as part of its education role, a limited number of bonsai that demonstrate the stages of development of a mature specimen.
