The Collection

The Collection consists of bonsai and penjing that have either been donated or loaned to it. Only specimens that are representative of very high standards of styling and presentation are accepted.

Trees are accepted into the permanent Collection after being assessed by the Bonsai Management Committee as meeting the appropriate standards of a National Collection. In order to provide opportunities for very high quality trees, which are not available to the Collection on permanent basis, to be displayed to the public, a system of an extended loan is arranged with owners. Thus between donated trees and loaned trees, visitors to the Collection can always see something new as well as return to renew their acquaintance with old favourites.
