February marks the month that the Canberra Bonsai Society launches its new website and bonsai knowledgebase (wiki).
The website redevelopment was based on a web strategy that aims to reflect the objectives of the club, build value and a sense of community for members, and encourage new members and attract bonsai enthusiasts nationally and internationally .
This strategy was developed by a club member, through feedback from members and the executive via responses to a questionnaire and face-2-face meetings. The development of the website was undertaken by Catalyst Interactive at no cost to the CBS.
The strategy seeks to build a website that reflects:
- Its brand (the core values and strategic direction)
- Accurate (high quality) and timely provision of content
- Content that is scannable (brevity, summaries and lists of points are important)
- Content that is indexable and searchable by Google and other search engines (contains key words and other metadata)
- Content that is consistent in style and look and feel
- Content that is easily found (navigation intuitive)
- Content that is logically structured and topic based (user focused)
- Exhibits Innovative approaches to communication that encourage participation and building of a sense of community in the club
- Interactivity (to encourage cooperation, discussion and building of value), and
- Has some measurement of use (statistical information to enable longer term development of the website)
Features of the website that help achieve these strategic aims include:
- A members only area
- Photogallery
- a calendar of events
- News and articles of interest
- a discussion forum for members (only) to ask an expert a question
- Easy access to information about the club for new members, and
- A bonsai knowledge base - in the style of a wiki - that will grow with contributions by members and national / international bonsai enthusiasts to the benefit of all.
This website is an avenue for members to promote and learn about bonsai. You are encouraged to participate in building value and a sense of community through its functions and applications.
